In all honesty, I’ve never been a summer person. Summer is my least favorite season. which is ironic considering I live in Greece. and I’m always glad when it’s over. I’m not fond of the high temperatures and how slow everything seems to be. On the contrary, I love fall. I love many things about it, but mostly, the sense of new beginnings; the sense that whatever happened in the summer, it’s now behind us. It’s time to start over, get organized, and get back on track.
In the past couple of years, I’ve been loving its aesthetics as well. The colors, the clothes, the candles, the rainy weather, the bittersweet shows – you name it. So, writing a blog post on a few ways we can romanticize this fall has been high on my priority list for a while.
Fall is lovely but sometimes it’s just too easy to fall into the trap of routine. This year, let’s ensure that we create a distinctive and memorable fall season.
So, here are 15 ways to romanticize this fall and make the best out of it.
1. Create a fall-themed Pinterest board
This is simple, free, and very inspiring. I love using Pinterest and I currently have it set as my homepage on my browser just because I prefer seeing this first thing when I turn on my laptop. I have boards for many purposes such as outfit ideas, places I’d like to visit, and my dream life. I also have one that is dedicated to the fall aesthetic. On this board, I save various photos of pumpkins, fall sceneries, hot coffee, candles, and the list goes on.
Having a fall-themed Pinterest board is a great way to get into the right mood and save photos that inspire you, make you feel good, and give you ideas about things you could try to do this autumn.
2. Watch shows or movies that remind you of fall
Now, there are some obvious choices that are purely fall-themed such as Gilmore Girls, Riverdale, Twilight, and Dead Poets Society. Besides those, you can also watch something that for some reason reminds you of autumn even if the show or the movie itself doesn’t really have to do with this season.
Also, autumn is the best season to watch comfort shows and movies. I currently watch Gossip Girl on Netflix and I think it’s very appropriate for fall. I love it!
If you’d like some more ideas, I suggest to you a few more shows and movies such as:
Shows
– Twin Peaks (1990-1991 & 2017)
– Sabrina (2018-2020)
– Stranger Things (2016-2025)
Movies
– When Harry met Sally (1989)
– Hocus Pocus (1993)
– Halloweentown (1998)
3. Write a love letter to yourself
There’s just something so aesthetically pleasing about writing letters. It’s old school, romantic, and can also be a very intimate gesture. We usually write letters to friends, lovers, and people we care about, expressing our feelings, thoughts, and fears.
Let’s just make this a little more unique by writing a letter to ourselves. Get comfortable, light a candle, take your favorite colorful pen and some writing paper, and get creative.
Be kind and gentle to yourself. Write about all the things you love about your personality, express your admiration for your achievements, and just treat yourself like you’d treat your favorite person in the world.
Sometimes we show our love to everyone else but ourselves.
4. Follow a morning routine
It’s a new season and usually a busy one. You need an organized and pleasant morning routine. Don’t forget that you’re the main character and meaningful mornings can set you up for a successful day.
There are a lot of things and activities you could include in your morning routine, but I’m going to give you a few ideas about things I like to do in the mornings.
You could focus on skincare, have a good breakfast without rushing, do some meditation, write in your journal, read a few pages of a book, and even do a light workout before heading out of home. It’s totally up to you!
5. Go on a coffee date
Does anyone else like going to cozy and warm coffee shops during autumn? Because I absolutely do! It’s the perfect time for coffee dates!
You can go on a coffee date with your best friend, your significant other, someone you haven’t seen in a while, or even by yourself!
Actually, I love going to coffee shops on my own – with a laptop for writing or with a book. It’s very relaxing and even inspiring. Just find a cute coffee shop you’ve never gone before and go for a hot beverage on a crispy or rainy day.
6. Decorate your space for fall
Throw pillows, scented candles, and decorative pumpkins can make a difference. Decorating your house for fall doesn’t have to be expensive since there are many good deals around, and you can refresh your space easily just with a few tweaks.
Another great and simple way to decorate your house for fall is buying flowers from your local farmer’s market such as sunflowers or a plant like gardenia.
7. Candles, candles, and more candles
Fall candles are my favorite ones and there are so many lovely scents to choose from. At this time of the year, there are a lot of options in every shop.
Overall, it all depends on your aesthetic. Do you want your house to smell like pumpkin spice or do you prefer something subtler such as wood?
This season, my favorite candles are the Autumn Nature Walk and the Cinnamon Stick by Yankee Candle.
8. Read a romance novel
Autumn is my favorite season to just curl up on the couch with a book and light a candle while I enjoy a cup of coffee.
While you can obviously read any genre you like, I highly suggest romance novels since they’re attuned to the season’s aesthetic. Choose something classic like Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte or something contemporary like It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover.
9. Create a fall music playlist
This season, you become the main character of your life – and every main character needs a soundtrack.
Create a playlist that feels cozy and have it play on the background while you’re at home relaxing, when you get ready for the day or when you drive to work.
Personally, I’d choose Adele, Lana del Rey, and Ariana Grande for sure. Maybe Sia too.
10. Do a Harry Potter movie marathon
Isn’t autumn the best season for spooky and witchy stuff? It is. If you’re a big Harry Potter fan like me, then consider doing a movie marathon.
Do it on a rainy weekend. Grab your favorite snacks, have some wine or whatever your preferred beverage is, and curl up in your sofa starting from the first movie.
11. Keep a daily gratitude list
Expressing openly your gratitude is a lovely habit to incorporate in your daily routine, so if it’s not something you do already, this fall is an appropriate time to start.
I do own a couple of gratitude journals that prompt you to express gratitude for three things that happened during the day, but lately I haven’t been feeling up to using them. So, what I do instead is way simpler: I just write down as many things as I can think of that I feel grateful for on the specific day.
I feel like gratitude is underestimated, but it’s helped me appreciate the present moment, and, in the long run, it’s improved my mental health.
12. Have a cozy self-care night in
Fall nights are perfect for staying in and investing time in yourself. So, don’t be afraid of pampering yourself and even upgrading your self-care routine.
What you can do for a self-care night in home: light your favorite candle, do a face mask, take a *fancy* shower, wear your favorite pjs, do some skincare, have some tasty wine and your favorite comfort food, and watch your favorite show on Netflix. You’ll be feeling great the next morning.
13. Have some pumpkin spice latte – or make one at home
Fall is the absolute PSL season! I love pumpkin spice latte and I’m going to admit I had too much last year.
Go to the nearest Starbucks, Dunkin or whatever and get some, or you can even make it on your own at home. I’ve done it and it was decent – just a little bothersome to make it. I want to be able to make my coffee easier and faster at my place, you know.
14. Wear big sweaters
Who doesn’t love big sweaters? I do, and I own a lot in various colors – although, mostly nude ones.
Big sweaters are comfortable, easy to style and keep you warm – so what’s better than that? Next time that you don’t feel good, just hide behind your favorite big sweater – it’ll almost feel like a hug.
15. Go to the movies
When was the last time you went to the movies? Well, if it’s been a while, think
about watching a movie at the cinema this fall. Bring a friend, a sibling, your partner, or just go on a date with yourself – what’s better than that?
If you’re not interested in the new releases, search for movie theaters where you can watch older, and in many cases classic, movies. Grab some pop corn and your favorite soft drink and have fun!
Happy Fall, y’all!
