What does it mean to live an aesthetic life anyway?
Aesthetic is all about beauty and pleasure, and it’s okay to want to live a life that embraces those elements. Modern culture wants to have us thinking that life is all about working, hustling, and struggling – but it doesn’t have to be like that. It’s okay to want to be surrounded by beautiful things, do activities that bring us pleasure, and simply want to feel good.
It’s not always easy to live such a life, though. Especially for those who have to manage a full-time job, caring for a family, growing – up kids – and the list goes on.
That’s why I decided to share with you 8 easy ways to make your daily life more aesthetic when you really don’t have any time for it.
8 ways to make your life more aesthetically pleasing
1) Light candles more often
One of the easiest and quickest ways to make your life more aesthetically pleasing is to just light a candle – and if it’s scented, even better. A candle will make your space cozier and its atmosphere purely beautiful. If you decide to use a scented candle, it’ll be even better, because it’ll quickly fill the room with a soft and pleasant scent that’ll help you relax and feel comfortable after a long day.
2) Practice affirmations every morning
Affirmations are one of my favorite ways to work on my self-esteem and confidence, improve my mood, and be conscious about the way I think and talk about myself. I’ve been practicing them semi-consistently since 2023, and someone can use them for any life area they’d like to improve. It’s easy to get inspiration and find many online or even create your own affirmations if that’s something you’d prefer.
Starting your day with affirmations and even making them a part of your morning routine is another way to show love to yourself and make your daily life more pleasant and mindful. There are many ways to do it: you can stand in front of your mirror and repeat 3-5 affirmations as you get ready for your day, or you can even start a simple meditation practice by closing your eyes, emptying your mind from any irrelevant thoughts, and repeating positive affirmations.
3) Dedicate a few minutes to journaling every day
I’ve been journaling on and off for many years – with long breaks in between. Well, whenever I get back to journaling consistently, I see a difference quickly to the way I feel, act, and express myself to others. Journaling is definitely one of the most beneficial ways to make your life more aesthetic. What can feel better than grabbing your journal, getting comfortable in bed, and letting out your thoughts?
Sometimes, I tend to procrastinate when it comes to journaling because I tend to think that it’s one of those activities that are time-consuming, but that’s far from the truth. For the days I don’t have time or I’m just not in the mood to go deep and write much, I use my Five Minute Journal for a quick check-in. It has various prompts that help you reflect quickly on your day. Mine is by Intelligent Change, but I’ve seen many similar five minute journals in the market recently, so you can certainly find something that suits you.
4) Dance to your favorite songs more often
There are times we just forget to have fun. When was the last time you danced to your favorite song at home, in pjs, and for no special reason? The truth is that adulting often makes us forget the benefits of being spontaneous and even a little goofy. Luckily, it’s never too late to change that.
Try to dance to songs you love at least once a week. Forget about everything and… just dance. No matter what you’re wearing, what you’re doing next and what’s on your to-do list for the day. Dancing like that at home gives romcom vibes, but besides that, it’ll improve your mood, make you feel more energized and will help you relax and forget about your problems for a little bit.
5) Build a morning and a night routine – even if you don’t follow them religiously
I used to believe that routines are boring and not necessary. As I grew older, I realized I was wrong. Having a morning and night routine not only can make your daily life more structured and organized, but it’s also a way to take care of and show love to yourself. Of course, it’s unrealistic to think that we’ll be able to follow the exact same routine every single day, but even if you stick to it a few times a week, it can make a difference.
There are a lot of ways to make these routines aesthetic, and that’s usually by including practices and rituals that focus on self – care, self – growth and self – love. For example, journaling and skincare are always a part of my routines and they both make me feel so much better, prettier and more loved.
6) Spend less time on social media
If you think about it, life is too short to waste peeking into others’ lives. So, a good way to appreciate your life more and make it more aesthetic is stop overusing social media. I know that doomscrolling is easy and sometimes tempting – especially after a long day – but in retrospect, it’s not worth it.
Instead, there are many nicer ways to spend your free time mindfully. Reading a book, talking to a loved one, doing some coloring, crocheting, or watching a movie are only a few alternatives that’ll make you feel much better, and make your life more aesthetically pleasing.
7) Make hydration more fun
What does water have to do with making your life more aesthetic? Well, it’s well-known that hydration is very important for our health. Actually, there are many lifestyle hacks that are supposed to help us drink more water such as apps, digital water trackers, and bottles with inspiring messages to help you hydrate more.
Adding some flavor to your water will definitely make the bland process of hydration more fun and your life feel…cuter. There are many things you can try, but a simple way to start and test the waters is to just add some lemon juice to your glass of water. You can also add cucumber or various fruits such as strawberries, watermelon, and raspberries. Plus, each fruit and vegetable offers unique health benefits, giving your hydration routine an extra boost
8) Become a little more mindful
Lastly, the final thing I’d like to suggest is to become, generally, more mindful. I’ve noticed that most people tend to torment themselves by doing things like overthinking the future or worrying about things that are not even close to happening yet. This kind of mindset is harmful in many ways, but also it leads us to losing the present moment – to not enjoy what is currently in front of us, taking everything for granted.
Becoming more mindful means taking some time each day to appreciate where we are now – to express our gratitude for what we currently have and are. Living in the now and enjoying life just as it comes is one of the most aesthetic things to do.
So, those were my 8 suggestions to live a more aesthetic life with a full schedule. Surely, there are way more things you can do, and it’s something I’ll probably explore in the future. Currently, with a full-time job and feeling overwhelmed, those things feel easy to do, and they can have great benefits in someone’s mental health and daily life.
