I’m going to be honest; I had to reach my late 20s to become consistent with my skincare routine. This time last year I didn’t have a routine and things were a little all over the place when it came to my skincare. I’d always try to keep up with the basics such as cleansing, SPF, and hydration, but while things would go well for a while, I couldn’t stay consistent. For the biggest part of my 20s, my skin has been far from perfect with my biggest issue being acne – nothing too bad, though. Still, skincare was never my top priority.
This changed this past spring. I went through a depressive episode (still going through it actually) and I reached a very low point mentally. I desperately needed some sense of control in my life so at the time I decided to start by establishing a morning and night skincare routine. So far I’ve stuck with it, and it’s quite simple compared to other routines I’ve seen. I’ve decided to share it with you and let you know my thoughts about the products I use and whether I’d buy them again or not!
My Morning Routine
My morning routine is quite simple and doesn’t have many steps because in all honesty, I’m not very fond of mornings and I always feel too sleepy to do much. So, I stick with the basics.
So, I start by washing my face with the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser for normal and dry skin. It’s my first time using it after I switched from an Avene cleanser that I’d been using for years. I’ll probably buy it again since it hasn’t caused any breakouts, I can say it cleans my face deeply and it doesn’t make my skin oily. Its price is really good as well. I haven’t noticed anything negative about it so far.
Then, for hydration I use the CeraVe moisturizing cream. It’s for both face and body but I’ve used it only for my face and I bought it in the biggest size so it feels like it’ll last forever. I love its light texture and it did miracles for my skin which was really neglected beforehand.
Then I use the CeraVe Eye Repair Cream, and I’d probably buy it again. While it’s nothing extraordinary I’ve noticed it helps with the puffiness I rarely get so you know, it seems like it does its job. Although, for some reason I still feel like I haven’t found the eye cream that is the one for me yet.
Lastly, for sun protection I apply the Thank you Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream. Its SPF is 50 and I’m so excited about this product. It’s hydrating (so sometimes I do skip the moisturizer if I am in a hurry), feels friendly to my skin and it’s not oily at all. It also doesn’t leave white marks behind which is definitely a plus. Certainly, I’ll buy it again.
My Night Routine
I love make-up so most of the days, I have some on. So, the first and essential step of my night routine is to take it off. For this purpose, I use the Garnier Micellar Water. I honestly love it and I’ve been buying it for years. Currently, it costs less than 4 euros in Greece so it’s very cheap and I tend to buy the 400 ml package which lasts for a couple of months. It’s my favorite micellar even though I’ve tried more expensive ones. This product takes the make up off easily without needing to use a big amount of it, it doesn’t smell, and it’s very friendly to my skin. It’s also great at taking off heavy eye make-up which I deeply appreciate. For rinsing my face I use the same CeraVe product I use in the morning.
Then, it’s time to apply the Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum. It’s described as a high-strength vitamin and mineral blemish formula and it must be my all-time favorite product. I religiously apply it every night and it makes my face incredibly smooth. Its biggest advantage is that it helped my skin clear from bad breakouts and honestly, my acne has almost been non-existent since I started using it. Its price is also another important factor as it’s a quite cheap product – as the majority of products that comes from this brand. It’s my second time buying it but definitely, not the last one. Well, brace yourself because we’re going to meet many more products by the Ordinary on this blog post.
Next, I apply the Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Ha. This product is described as a surface hydration formula. I love its texture because it’s not greasy and its smell is really discreet. It’s a good moisturizer and I can feel that it hydrates my skin and leaves it really smooth and soft. This product is also cheap enough since it costs around 15 euros (I have the 100 ml version). It’s my first time using it but I think I’d buy it again.
So, my eyelashes had been in a bad state because I’ve been using mascara on a daily basis. They had obviously thinned. So, when I decided to establish a skincare routine, I thought of taking care of them as well. So, I’ve been applying the Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum every night. I’ve been using it only on my eyelashes and honestly, I love it.
In the past, I had used castor oil which probably does miracles but I just couldn’t stand it because it’s too heavy and greasy. So I ended up stopping it after a while. This serum though is not greasy at all and it’s also easy to apply it. Best things about it? It’s affordable and it does work! I saw a difference after like 2 weeks – although it wasn’t anything dramatic. But I continue using it and things are still improving. I’d definitely buy it again.
Now, I’d like to add that there are two more products I use at nights but not on daily basis and not together.
So, the first one is the Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. My feelings about this product are mixed and I’m not sure if I’ll buy it again. I don’t like how it smells and sometimes it makes my skin sting while it has never been sensitive to any other products. On the other hand, I can say it probably works. I’ve noticed that my face is a little brighter – having that natural glow that I’d been jealous of for a while. Also, it must have helped with breakouts in combination with the niacinamide 10% + zinc 1% product. So, it definitely has its ups and downs.
The other product is the Ordinary Retinol 1% Anti-Aging Serum. To be honest, I don’t use it every week and I don’t have a big issue with fine lines and wrinkles yet so I guess I mostly use it to be proactive since I’m in my late 20s. I don’t like its texture that much, but I can certainly tell that my face looks a lot smoother after I use it. I’ll probably buy it again as well.
Lastly, when I experience breakouts, I like using tea tree oil – nothing fancy when it comes to the brand as I’ve bought from many different. Its smell can be strong but I personally love it and I find it oddly calming. It does help with them and it’s a quite cheap essential oil.
So, that’s pretty much my current skincare routine and I’m quite happy with it at the moment. As you can see I currently use products from mainly two brands that I’d been wanting to give a try for a while and I couldn’t be more pleased.
What’s your experience with these products? Have you tried any of those? Feel free to share your skincare routine with me in the comments!
